About
Gift of Fire
The
Gift of Fire is the official publication of the Prometheus
Society. It is the forum for all business of the Society. Issues
are published ten times yearly. Issues have averaged around
forty pages in length over the last year with article topics
covering science, religion, languages, the arts and some mathematical
puzzles. Subscription to this journal is included in the membership
fee and is available to non-members at the same rate. The normal
subscription option includes a hard copy of every issue of the
Gift of Fire as well as password access to the on-line
version on the internet through this page. The on-line only
option offers all benefits except the hardcopy.
All
opinions expressed in the Gift of Fire are those of
the acknowledged author (sometimes perhaps only in jest!) and
do not represent those of the Society as a whole nor necessarily
of any of the officers of this society or its members.
To
subscribe or purchase back issues please contact the treasurer.
For changes of address please contact the editor. The editor's
contact information is published in each issue of Gift of
Fire.
Copyright
Information
Each issue of Gift of Fire is copyrighted by the Prometheus
Society. However, the ownership of the copyrights of individual
articles is retained by the authors themselves so that any article
appearing in Gift of Fire may be submitted elsewhere
by its author without requesting permission from, nor providing
notification to, the Prometheus Society.
It
is assumed that submissions have not previously been copyrighted
by another publication unless accompanied by a signed release
by the appropriate authority. Subsequent submission to other publications
which may then retain the copyright of the material is acceptable.
Authors
must indicate whether the article has been submitted for publication
in hard copy only and receive acknowledgement back from the Editor;
otherwise authorization is assumed for the on-line version.
Information
on Submission of Articles and Other Material
The Prometheus Society espouses intellectual freedom and, therefore,
the editor does not censor nor otherwise restrict the subject
matter of articles submitted by members of the society. Nor
will he (or she) do so in the future with the exception that
articles which seem to attack individuals personally or disclose
personal information concerning other individuals will not be
published. (Refer to the constitution--access
has been provided on this web page--for guidelines.)
Submissions from non-members will be published from time to time
as space allows. However, this will only be in accordance with
the perceived interest of the membership in the subject matter
and presentation (To date, a high percentage of those submissions
have been published.) .
It
is essential that submissions be on either Macintosh
or PC compatible electronic media, preferably delivered at the
editor's E-mail address listed above as attachments or in-line
text (Notice that many communities provide free Internet access
at public libraries, colleges, etc.). 31/2 inch floppy disks
may be mailed to the Editor's postal address (Please do not submit
non-standard disks or tapes!). Macintosh or Microsoft
Word for Windows text and standard graphics files
(jpg, gif) are preferred but we'll make do with what you have.
Typed or handwritten material is sometimes acceptable but it will
be retyped by the editor to obtain a uniform quality journal as
time allows.
Artwork,
sketches, clear photographs and or computer graphics are also
requested. Author photographs or portraits are encouraged. Preferably
again, these would be on electronic medium, but they will be scanned
in otherwise.
