Laura,
My purpose in recommending a book (THE EVERYDAY GENIUS-
by Peter Kline)
WAS to help others. How better to do that than to direct
people to someone who is an expert in doing just that?
Indeed, since children are our future, we must try to help
them develope into healthy, happy, well-balanced and wise
children and adults. That is exactly what I was trying to
do when I recommended that particular book.
Might I suggest that you READ it, rather than cast stones
at someone who is trying to do exactly what you suggested?
Might I also suggest that you subscribe to Gift Of Fire, which
is available to non-members as well as members for $20 per
year? If you were to do so, you might find that there are
some of us who DO care about helping others among this group
of subscribers and members-and are doing something about it.
And, as a subscriber or member, you have the opportunity to
submit articles to it-subject to certain guide-lines of
course. (If it is not slanderous, in extreme bad taste, or
just plain hateful, it will almost always be accepted.)
In parting, let me say that your comments do have some truth
to them. All I can suggest is that you take the plunge
(subscribe to Gift Of Fire) and see what the rest of us are
like. (And what we are doing to use our gifts to improve
society) Who knows? Maybe some of us can learn from you and
your practical ideas. But I can guarantee that all you will
get from me is a deaf ear if you are only going to throw rocks.
--Cordially,
Robert Burns

Of Fire, send your subscription fee to Robert Dick at:

Hope to see you in print soon.---Robert

Dear Robert:
Well, let me first say that my intention was not to cast stones, and I am sorry if I came
off that way. I guess we all have our underlying motives and personal experiences which
drive us to say the things that we do. And while I did mean what I said, I can understand
how it might come off differently to someone else (as I don't have the benefit of
objectivity when it comes to hearing what I say).
I never meant to imply that you don't care about children. I certainly cannot comment on
you or anyone else in the society, as I obviously don't know you. My intention was to
hopefully direct efforts in the way of reaching out to children. No one denies the vast
intelligence that lies within your society; however, it seems to me that that just means
that the members of Prometheus are all the more capable of finding a way to benefit those
children in need.
I do apologize in my statement that implied that suggesting certain literature was
inadequate advice. At least you have taken the time to offer help; however I still feel
that all of us can do more. Furthermore, if Prometheus (or any of its members) would ever
choose to initiate any sort of program in the efforts of reaching gifted children, I would
surely be more than glad to help in any way I can.
My intent was not to alienate anyone at all. Perhaps that was not clear. My intent was to
prod those who do have good intentions into acting on them. Certainly, anyone without good
intentions would not have given a second thought to my comments.

try to take the Mega or the Titan, for example.
By the way, I like yer web page.

high iq societies are no different than others sans
their intelligence prereq. seems synonimic of an
ego trip than a willingness to increase the body of knoledge in our natural world. It
would be nice if we could just humble ourselves for a second and look at the big
picture...thanks. My IQ has ranged as low as 94 and as high as 149. I dont attribute this
vast differencial to my health or my sleeping paterns. You can't gain 50+ IQ points by
simply getting a good nights rest. Even if they were different tests. I find I dont do the
math problems when I am extremely tired. Why are they included in these tests anyway. Or
was I mistaken...are they really Knoledge tests. In one example of one of Steve 's Mega
test It asks you for comparing insane analogys in like 10-12 of its questions. stuff you
wouldnt know. even if he does give you a dictionary and a month to look up what they mean.
I think tests should be a measure of real Physical Intelligence. Ever see of this term
before? The others give too much of a variance day to day and they dont measure your whole
intelligence just a gift you might have in test taking. If they could devise a test that
would physically measure your intelligence like Hooking up a controlled strobe light and
measure the time it take for your brain responds to the visual signal...then they could do
it auditorally. and then maybe use something to touch the person and measure the time it
takes for the impulse to reach the brain and back. Get this type of test normed then
superimposed against your Intelligence test!! ok its been 36 hours since I have gotten any
sleep any grammatical errors, repeat phrases or just plain stupidity "is from this
lack of."

I'd have to say that this is all a little confusing to say the least. I'd love to know
just exactly what defines intelligence. I just did 6 IQ tests and my scores ranged from
120 to 132, (which incidentally means very little to me) Now I am sure that life
experience plays a huge role in all of this as does education and possibly other factors
like visual perception etc.. so who could actually say just WHO is the brain and who is
not? I will never put a number on my intelligence because I simply continue to learn
daily, therefore my intelligence will range constantly by the amount of information I have
at that specific moment in time that I choose to take a test. Also, I could be really
tired that day, or really alert...So just how do you define intelligence anyway? And then
why put yourselves in a select group unless you are all working together for the greater
cause of something or other.(are you?) It seems to me that it might be self gratification
just a tad. Don't get me wrong, I admire intellect a great deal, but I just think that if
I had some great universal mind, I'd be out there helping kids today who want to learn and
feed their educationally deprived minds with all sorts of stuff.(Are any of you up to
these antics?) And I'd really be getting people interested in learning and searching for
answers to everything...(are you guys up to that too?)...Well, anyhow nice to meet you.
You know that one day, a highschool drop out will save the world don't you. ha!

Well laid out and interesting site. Wonder
how you propose to measure IQ beyond 99% and how
to standardize it? It is even possible to
devise a test that is only passable by oneself
proving that every human is unique.

Well it is certainly a conundrum why u as a "society" believe only certain
people of "high intelligence" can join this society. I understand the high
intellgence part but you base this on an illogical test (AKA the IQ test) which can never
"grade" one's intelligence. I have not tried to enter this society of yours for
those reasons. I know u are thinking "Hey he clearly seems to not meet the criteria
of which this society grades people on". Well if u are wondering my age I am 16 and
male. Well I don't ,ean to "bash" your society but still I can't understand why
u have choosen so few to join when u don't know the potential of those u turn down. I sure
many people have said this but this is the first time for me (u know this advicely). Well
no hard feelings eh chaps

It tis I Cory again well this time I am going to say u guys are sure full of yourself
talking down to people . I bet i could womp some of the members of your society in history
and science. Another thing what is up with that if this is to that then this is to what,
that is so stupid it can't measure nething i swear. Uguys need to come up with some better
tests to "grade' people's intelligence. TA-TA

I believe that all the people are intelligent. There is noone more clever than another. I
am a14 year old girl from Greece, Larissa. You'll think :What does this little girl know?.
But believe me i know a lot of things. I live it. From a momment to another people who are
thought not to be clever become the most intelligent people. Moreover if somebody is
clever he will not boast off or take part in some fool competitions!!!!!!

who can find the cur for it
before the rest of us catch it?!I have a misfortune of being around a few of them and it's
begining to

them I can't even imagine
to start explaining myself. It makes me angry, seeing people

Hi
In a way it's funny. Some months ago I lost track because
my wife had serious health problems. Then I got that email
(yesterday) referring to a letter that I posted in march; so
I decided to visit the Prometheus site to see what has
happened.
Not too much it seems. Well, some letters concerning
gifted kids. At least something. Any results ?
And then -as usual- all this (usually Outsider oriented
or related) "Me so damn intelligent and suffering since
I was a kid" howling. In better cases with small variations.
You know what? Beeing a HIQ is just like beeing a really
(really !) nice woman. When they are 30 or so, you can
basically break them down into two groups:
- The ones that have "learned" that they are just sex
objects, being "abused" and ignored by men.
- The ones that had their bad times but have somehow
evolved into a healthy being, really having learned
and having *used* their experience.
Well, I'm not a club and I don't dispose of a combined
IQ of 16400 (100 members * 164). But even with my limited
IQ of 65 (low enough to make you feel good ?) I could
understand that howling, attacking, feeding one's profile
neurosis, avoiding the task to somehow survive out there
in that real world, excusing with bad childhood etc.
would do no good.
So, I made sure that my kids laugh enough and loud,
that they get satisfying and profound answers to their
sometimes weird questions ("Why is there a 'cover' on
the eyes and none on the ears ?"), that nobody and I
mean nobody (including those super bozo teachers)
terrorizes or mutilates them. Next, and very important,
I tickle them sufficiently.
Coming back to the matter some months ago: Hey guys, I
didn't ask for books or for help. All I wanted was that
Prometheus would waste a little less energy on psychopathy
and number masturbation and would instead do what every
association would do (amongst other things): Taking care
of their members interests. Well, If your members major
interests really are the number competition and solving
puzzles then it's O.K. and I apologize. If, however,
your association is more than an elite weird IQ-sex
club, you might want to very seriously consider to
start thinking about your raison d'etre ...
I'm sorry, all this is getting boring. My wife stopped
breathing 5 times during the last couple weeks, my kids
are like flowers that need *immense* amounts of care
and fun to grow at berserk speed, and there are so many
people out there needing help that this whole Prometheus
thing feels more and more ridiculous.
Let me, as a small thank you, offer you some more
typical guestbook entries ...

Yack.
My IQ is 163 but -if I got this right- it must be

Too bad. But hey, at least I left something here (like

Hello
All you High IQ guys think you are better, huh ? No, you
aren't. I have an IQ of 97 and I thank God for this
because it saves me from feeling superior like all
you useless arrogant guys. Sure enough, I know more
than most of you about south indonesian kikiki-birds (The somewhat smaller yellow-green
variation).
You see, intelligence is not just math ! It's also about
birds, bowling or football. Now you have something to think about, huh?

Dear fellow thousander,
I've created a message board for all the members of the several disparate
high-intelligence societies. The purpose is to bring everyone together for a dialogue and
for meeting other sharp people like yourself from all the groups.
Since I've just started it, I'm hoping to evolve it into something that everyone can use
and will want to use. Therefore, please leave comments on the board for everyone to see
about how best to make the idea work.
Please goto & bookmark this page:

Thankyou. Sincerely,

Dear Prometheus Members,
I salute your site and the work it took to create it. I have a question. In '96 I took an
intelligence test at StonyBrook Univ. NY, I scored a 134 on the intelligence test they
gave me out of a possible 140. Due to a slight problem I have ( ADHD ) The test was very
weighted towards certain categories. In other words in the categories that I did well in,
I scored extremely high. Yet in others I scored Extremely low. Where do I fit in? Is it
possible that I could join such a group as this? For many reasons, I would appreciate an
answer, so if you could shed some light for me. E-mail: Redlarch@juno.com
E-mail: dkspectre@aol.com

"I take what I want, I want what I can't take?!"-said
somebody to me (or I it's just in my head) but this seems to have
some meaning to me, although I can't quite see it clearly. Somebody
must tell me hwo to make things different, better. It better be
fast cause the alternative is pretty dark- I might go crazy!!!
Thing seem prety much the same here...I hope you have it good
